About me

After I studied Biomedical Sciences with a major in Human Movement Sciences at the Radboudumc, I started my PhD at the Orthopaedic Research Laboratory in September 1995. In June 2001 I graduated for my PhD on a thesis entitled “Mechanical Regulation of Bone Development” and since then I have been working at the ORL. In 2014 I was appointed as Associate professor ‘onderwijs in beweging’. In March 2021 I was appointed full professor in ‘Clinical Movement Sciences Education”.

Educational activities

As Principal Lecturer and specialization coordinator Clinical Human Movement Sciences I perform many teaching, coordinating and management activities. I coordinate the minor ‘Moving questions: an introduction to Clinical Human Movement Sciences’; the Q6 module ‘Belasting en belastbaarheid’ and the Master course ‘Orthopedic Biomechanics in motion’. I am also chairman of the Education Management Team 1 of the Bachelor’s programs Biomedical Sciences and Medicine.

Research Impression

My research activities lie in the field of Biomechanics where I supervise PhD students. In my research line we aim to improve the prediction in femoral fracture risk in patients with bone metastases by using the BOne Stength (BOS) score, which is based on patient specific computer models, i.e. nonlinear finite element models. We are currently working on implementation of the BOS score in clinical practice.
