Interns

About me

My name is Julia van den Heiligenberg and  I am currently in my Master of Technical Medicine. I started at the ORL on September 11th and will stay until July 2024. I will be working on a project that focusses on 4DCT imaging of knees.

About me

Hi, my name is Joline and I have just started my master’s degree in medicine at Radboud University. I have been working as a student-assistant for the Clinical Score Station in the orthopedics department for over a year now, where I support researchers with their projects.

In addition, I have now started my own research internship here under the supervision of Erim Özdemir. Over the next three months I will focus on polyethylene wear of the acetabular cup used in total hip arthroplasty in young patients.

About me

My name is Marnick Los and I will be doing my graduation assignment for the master biomedical engineering at the university of Twente in collaboration with the ORL. I completed the Bachelor of Biomedical Technology and continued the master’s with specialisation in Biorobotics. Besides my study I spend a lot of time on the athletics track and I am also currently employed part time at Defensity college where I work at the prosthetics workshop of the military rehabilitation centre. This is where I was inspired by Prosthetics and orthotics and was lucky enough to find a research topic to graduate in this direction.

Under supervision of Nico Verdonschot and Ruud Leijendekkers I will conduct a case study to assess the safety of running for below-the-knee amputees with an osseointegrated implant. This will broadly entail a recording of kinematics, determining forces on the implant and some analysis on the forces in the implant and bone implant interface.

About me

My name is Paul Kussige, and I am a medical student at Radboud University. Currently, I am in the waiting period for my clinical rotations. Because I am very interested in the surgical and orthopedic field, and want to broaden my knowledge within these areas, I have chosen to pursue my research internship here until April next year.

Under the supervision of Dr. Hosman and Dr. Pouw, I will study whether a late surgical intervention has an effect on the functional recovery in patients with traumatic spinal cord injury compared to the current standard.

About me

My name is Liron Brundel and I am currently starting my master in medicine at the Radboud University. I’m starting off my master with my research internship, which I’ve chosen to do at the orthopedic research lab.

The coming 3 months I will be working with my supervisor Jasper van der Graaf on validating an AI-based method for detection, quantification and grading of lumbar spinal stenosis on MRI’s.

About me

My name is Eva Hanssen, a 22-year-old Master student in Biomedical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology. Recently having returned from my abroad experiences in Copenhagen, Denmark and Auckland, New Zealand, I am now eager to start my graduation project with Dennis Janssen at the ORL. In the upcoming ten months (May 2023 till February 2024), I will look into the effect of the KneeReviver on human cadaveric knees. This device should provide a new surgical treatment for knee osteoarthritis by temporarily unloading the knee joint surfaces. I will address its performance by looking into the knee joint contact stresses, combining data from pressure sensitive film into a FE model.

About me

I am Alwin, 3rd year master’s student in Biomedical Sciences. I will be doing my communications internship until June 2024. I will look at how we can put the study “Exercise sciences” (Beweginswetenschappen) within Biomedical Sciences on the map.

About me

My name is Hanna van Selm and I am currently in my third year of the Biomedical Sciences bachelor. The last semester of this year is devoted to a research internship. I am very pleased to announce that I will start this internship at February 5th here at the ORL. Under supervision of Florieke, I will try to improve the BOS-score. From the UMC Utrecht, more participants will be included, which will make the BOS-score more accurate in predicting the risk of a fracture in the femur.

About me

Hi Everyone, my name is Jonne de Bijl. I study biomedical engineering at the TU/e and will be doing my internship here at the orthopedic research lab. I will focus on automatic segmentation of tissues in the knee with CT and MRI images in a cartilage damaged knee. I will be supervised by Dennis Janssen.
