Interns
About me
My name is Maxime Devos and I am currently in my 4th and last year of the medical master at Utrecht University (SUMMA). On September 27th I started my research project at the ORL. During the next 32 weeks, I will be working on a collaborative project with UTwente to validate bone surface depth with A-mode ultrasound and motion tracking system on a cadaveric leg. I have a background in (bio)medical engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology, where I specialized in cardiovascular biomechanics during my previous master.
At the ORL I perform research under supervision of professor Nico Verdonschot and Dr. Dennis Janssen.

About me
My name is Sammie Pelt and I am currently in my third year of the Biomedical Sciences bachelor at the Radboud University. For the bachelor, I have to follow an internship for 6 months as the final assignment of the programme. I chose an internship at the orthopaedics department, because I am very interested in the domains of orthopaedics and I would like to broaden my knowledge on this specialism.
I started my internship at the third of February under the supervision of Florieke Eggermont. I will be researching and adapting material properties of blastic bone metastases in the proximal femur and test the bone strength with the use of Finite Element modelling to observe the effects on the risk fracture prediction accuracy.
In my spare time I enjoy weightlifting at the gym and spending time with friends.

About me
My name is Marnick Los and I will be doing my graduation assignment for the master biomedical engineering at the university of Twente in collaboration with the ORL. I completed the Bachelor of Biomedical Technology and continued the master’s with specialisation in Biorobotics. Besides my study I spend a lot of time on the athletics track and I am also currently employed part time at Defensity college where I work at the prosthetics workshop of the military rehabilitation centre. This is where I was inspired by Prosthetics and orthotics and was lucky enough to find a research topic to graduate in this direction.
Under supervision of Nico Verdonschot and Ruud Leijendekkers I will conduct a case study to assess the safety of running for below-the-knee amputees with an osseointegrated implant. This will broadly entail a recording of kinematics, determining forces on the implant and some analysis on the forces in the implant and bone implant interface.

About me
My name is Mart Verhoeven and I am currently in my first year of the master Biomedical Engineering at the Technical University of Eindhoven with Orthopaedic Biomechanics as my specialization. On the 24th of April, I started my internship under the supervision of Thomas Gersie as part of my master.
During the internship I will be implementing visco-elastic behaviour in (sample specific) finite element bone models to investigate the influence of this behaviour on bone. The results of the FE models will be compared to the experimental data to check the performance of the models.
